Overview

Anderon is America's first pure-play quantum chip foundry, announced via a Letter of Intent between IBM and the U.S. Department of Commerce on May 21, 2026 and spun off from IBM to scale the domestic quantum ecosystem. Headquartered at Albany NanoTech in Albany, NY, it will operate as a 300mm superconducting-qubit wafer foundry, backed by a proposed $1 billion CHIPS award plus $1 billion in IBM cash, IP, assets, and workforce. IBM has also moved to acquire HRL Laboratories to bring silicon spin-qubit capability into the foundry. Initial output is intended to supply wafers for IBM's Kookaburra (targeted 2026), Cockatoo (2027), and Starling (2029) quantum systems.
