Overview
Kaiam Corporation was a US-founded (Newark, California) manufacturer of optronics transceivers for data center networking. In 2014 it acquired Gemfire Corp.'s InP photonic wafer fab in Livingston, West Lothian, Scotland. The Livingston fab produced planar lightwave circuits (PLC) and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) on InP wafers. Kaiam's UK operations went into administration on December 24, 2018, after cash-flow failure and a Finisar patent lawsuit, laying off 310 workers with no notice. The Planar Lightwave Circuits division was subsequently acquired by Broadex Technologies UK Ltd.
