Overview
Kioxia's planned Fab3 at its Kitakami plant in Iwate Prefecture, on land immediately south of the existing Fab 2 (K2). Kioxia announced on 27 August 2026 that it had begun site preparation for a new state-of-the-art facility to expand production of advanced 3D BiCS FLASH memory (with SanDisk, formerly Western Digital, as joint-venture partner at the Kitakami plant), targeting operation start in fiscal year 2029. Kioxia's own release does not disclose a Fab3-specific investment figure and states plans are contingent on government support; Japanese business press (via Nikkei) has reported a figure of over 1 trillion yen (~US$6.3 billion). The project sits within a broader roughly 5 trillion yen (~$31.3 billion) Kioxia/SanDisk Japan investment plan through 2032 to meet AI-driven memory demand. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at Kitakami, Iwate, Japan. It focuses on NAND on 300mm wafers. Production at this facility is expected to begin in 2029.
