Overview

PREMA Semiconductor GmbH ran an in-house wafer fab at its Mainz-Hechtsheim headquarters for bipolar and BiCMOS analog and mixed-signal ICs. Founded in 1977, PREMA started on 75mm wafers and expanded to 150mm (1996) and 200mm (2012). The fab produced high-voltage ASICs and ASSPs up to 80V for industrial and automotive applications, along with drivers, amplifiers, linear regulators and optical encoders, and offered full-custom ASIC design-to-fab services alongside standard catalog products. On 17 April 2025 the Mainz District Court ordered provisional insolvency administration (case 280 IN 65/25) and appointed Hans-W. Goetsch of BGP Insolvenzverwalter; proceedings opened the following month. No buyer, investor or continuation of operations has been reported, and the commercial register (HRB 595) listed the company in liquidation as of January 2026. PREMA had survived an earlier insolvency opened in April 2012 and concluded in July 2013.
