The Scottish Microelectronics Centre (SMC) is a purpose-built GBP 4.2 million micro/nanofabrication facility at the University of Edinburgh's King's Buildings campus, with about 250 m2 of class 10 cleanroom and 1,000 m2 of lab and office space; its original cleanrooms have been fully operational since 2001. It is one of a small number of UK facilities able to process 200mm silicon wafers and hosts the Institute for Integrated Micro and Nano Systems alongside commercial tenants.
