Sensonor (since April 2022 Safran Sensing Technologies Norway AS) operates its own MEMS wafer fab in Horten, Norway, making high-precision gyroscopes, IMUs, and pressure sensors. The company was established in 1985 as a spin-out of Aker Microelectronics (AME), with technology roots at the site going back to 1965; it produced high-volume automotive TPMS and airbag sensors, was owned by Infineon (as Infineon Technologies SensoNor) from June 2003 to February 2009, continued independently after a 2009 management buyout, and was acquired in full by Safran Electronics & Defense on 1 October 2021.
