SMART Photonics, founded in 2012 as a spin-off from TU Eindhoven and Philips, is a pure-play indium phosphide photonic integrated circuit foundry at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. Capacity is about 5,000 wafer starts per year (roughly 420 per month), with plans to scale toward 10,000 wafers by 2030; more than 150 million euros has been invested in the foundry since 2012, including a 100 million euro funding round in 2024 and a 75 million euro PhotonDelta growth-fund grant.
