Overview
SSMC (Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company) is a US$1.2 billion 200mm wafer fab in Pasir Ris Wafer Fab Park, Singapore, founded as a joint venture of Philips Semiconductors, TSMC, and Singapore's EDB Investments (now NXP 61.2% / TSMC 38.8%). Ground was broken in June 1999, first commercial billing came 17 months later in late 2000, and the fab was officially opened on May 11, 2001 with a full capacity of 30,000 wafers per month on 0.25 and 0.18 micron processes; monthly capacity had grown to 53,000 wafers by 2010, supporting logic, embedded flash, mixed-signal and RF applications down to 0.14 micron.
