Overview

VisEra Technology Company was established in November 2003 as a roughly US$50 million joint venture between TSMC and OmniVision to provide backend wafer-level manufacturing services for image-capturing ICs, initially operating an inherited 8-inch color-filter line within TSMC's Hsinchu Fab 7 before TSMC and OmniVision each added a further US$27 million in January 2007 to fund a dedicated 12-inch facility. OmniVision divested its wafer-level-lens process line from the venture in 2011, after which VisEra continued as a TSMC-affiliated, separately TWSE-listed optical foundry (TSMC held roughly 67% of the equity as of early 2025) offering 8-inch and 12-inch wafer-level manufacturing for image sensors, optical fingerprint sensors, light sensors, and time-of-flight sensors, primarily color filter and micro-lens processing rather than front-end logic fabrication, so it carries no process-node figure of its own. Its main production site is now the Longtan plant in Taoyuan, operated under a TSMC leasing framework, where the company began a Phase 2 capacity expansion in 2025 to support thinner optical components for smartphone, automotive, and emerging AI-glasses/optical-sensing applications; VisEra reported record full-year revenue of roughly NT$10 billion (~US$306 million) in 2024.
