The 'Athena' facility at 3725 North 1st Street in San Jose was a secret 200mm development fab Apple bought in December 2015 for $18.2 million from Maxim Integrated Products (which had itself acquired the plant from Samsung in 1997), used for microLED research with equipment spanning 0.6-micron to 90nm process nodes. In February 2025, Apple sold the 70,700-square-foot building back to Samsung Semiconductor for $27 million.
