Overview

SPFAB traces to Fairchild Semiconductor's original South Portland plant, opened in 1962-63 as one of the longest continuously operating semiconductor manufacturing sites in the world. onsemi acquired the facility via its 2016 purchase of Fairchild Semiconductor and ran it as part of a 'fab-lite' manufacturing strategy before selling it to Diodes Incorporated, with the sale officially closing June 3, 2022. onsemi closed its remaining South Portland office in June 2024 and has no further presence in Maine. The 200mm fab has 85,000 sq ft of clean room running 0.18um-1.5um analog CMOS, BCDMOS, bipolar, and SiC epi processes; Diodes continues manufacturing onsemi products there under a multi-year wafer supply agreement.
