Overview
SkyWater Bloomington is SkyWater Technology's headquarters fab in Bloomington, Minnesota, a 200mm pure-play foundry and the only US-owned DMEA Category 1A Trusted Foundry. The fab was originally established by Control Data Corporation in the 1980s, acquired by Cypress Semiconductor in January 1991 for $14.7M and expanded repeatedly, then spun out in March 2017 to form SkyWater Technology with backing from Oxbow Industries. It runs 130nm/90nm mixed-signal CMOS (including the open-source SKY130 PDK with Google), rad-hard, MEMS and superconducting processes for aerospace, defense, biomedical and quantum customers. In a ~$1.8 billion deal that closed July 31, 2026, quantum computing company IonQ acquired SkyWater Technology in full (FTC-cleared, no conditions); SkyWater continues operating as a wholly owned IonQ subsidiary under the SkyWater name, serving its existing foundry customer base.
