Tohoku University CIES
Overview
Tohoku University's Center for Innovative Integrated Electronic Systems (CIES), at the Aobayama campus Science Park in Sendai, operates a 300mm wafer process R&D line in its own cleanroom, funded in part by private grants from the semiconductor industry and among the very few academic 300mm lines in the world. The center was established in 2012, the cleanroom started up in April 2013, and the first 300mm wafer lot ran in November 2013. Research focuses on ultra-low-power spintronics (STT-MRAM) integrated with CMOS.
