Overview
VIS Fab 5 is a 200mm (8-inch) foundry line in Hsinchu Science Park producing logic and mixed-signal ICs. VIS acquired Fab 5 (together with a Fab 4 line) from Winbond Electronics, a purchase finalized in January 2008 that expanded its foundry capacity. VIS was founded in December 1994 in Hsinchu Science Park by Morris Chang and initially made DRAM before announcing its shift to pure-play foundry in 2000 and fully exiting DRAM in February 2004. Across its five 8-inch fabs in Taiwan and Singapore, VIS ran a combined capacity of roughly 287,000 wafers per month in 2025.
