Overview
Infineon Regensburg (on the site of Siemens' former Wernerwerk) is Infineon's only site combining front-end chip manufacturing with three separate back-end packaging lines (sensors; chip cards and security; chip embedding), employing over 3,400 people across a 237,000 sqm site. It develops and manufactures semiconductor and system solutions for automotive, chip card, and industrial/eMobility applications. Siemens opened the Wernerwerk Regensburg site in 1959 and began production of highly integrated circuits there in 1986 under the MEGA project (a roughly DM 1.7 billion investment with Toshiba know-how), with 1-Mbit DRAM production ramping from early 1987. The site passed to Infineon with the 1999 Siemens semiconductor spin-off. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at Regensburg, Bavaria, Germany.
