Overview

MACOM's Lowell, Massachusetts headquarters campus at 100 Chelmsford Street houses the company's original compound-semiconductor wafer fab, tracing back to Microwave Associates (founded 1950), which became M/A-COM and was spun out as the independent MACOM Technology Solutions in 2009. The DoD's Defense Microelectronics Activity accredited the Lowell fab as a Category 1A Trusted Foundry on 4 June 2014, recognizing it for high-diversity fabrication and niche process variants used in classified and unclassified U.S. military and aerospace applications. As of MACOM's January 2025 strategic investment plan, the fab runs 100mm GaAs, GaN, and silicon production lines; that plan is a combined five-year, up to $345 million modernization (roughly $180M in anticipated government support plus $165M self-funded) covering BOTH this site and MACOM's Research Triangle Park, NC fab together, not a Lowell-only figure, expanding cleanrooms within the existing building footprint and adding 150mm GaN-on-SiC manufacturing capability for advanced-node applications, alongside HVAC, water, solar, and power infrastructure upgrades. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at 100 Chelmsford Street, Lowell, MA 01851, USA. It focuses on RF / Wireless, Compound Semiconductor, GaN on 100mm wafers.
