Overview

Renesas Kawashiri Factory in Kumamoto City is a key 200mm front-end fab focusing on MCU production. The site dates to 1969, when Kyushu Nippon Electric (NEC Kyushu) was established there; in its early years it was billed as one of the world's largest semiconductor memory plants. It became NEC Semiconductors Kyushu-Yamaguchi in 2008, Renesas Semiconductor Kyushu-Yamaguchi in 2010, and has been operated by Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. since the 2014 reorganization.
