Renesas Saijo Factory

Overview

The Saijo Factory in Hiuchi, Saijo City, Ehime is one of five front-end wafer fabs operated by Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., a wholly owned Renesas subsidiary. Built by Mitsubishi Electric, it was completed and began operation in 1984 as a pioneering fully automated fab that became a model for automated DRAM fabs of its era. In Renesas's mid-2020s production restructuring it was singled out, together with Naka and Kawashiri, as a core fab to keep running while other domestic front-end sites faced transfer, downsizing, or closure.
