Overview

Renesas restarted its Kofu Factory in Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture on April 1, 2024 as a dedicated 300mm wafer fab for power semiconductors, following a 90-billion-yen (about US$0.6 billion) investment decided in 2022. The site previously ran 150mm and 200mm lines until it closed in October 2014. It began mass production of IGBTs, power MOSFETs, and other power devices in 2025, roughly doubling Renesas' power-semiconductor production capacity to serve electric-vehicle and renewable-energy demand.
