Overview
Coherent Sherman is a major compound semiconductor facility focused on 150mm Indium Phosphide (InP) wafer fabrication for AI communications and optoelectronic devices. Coherent broke ground 16 June 2026 on an expansion doubling the campus's manufacturing floor space and quadrupling wafer output by transitioning from legacy 3-/4-inch InP substrates to 6-inch -- described as the world's first volume-production 6-inch InP manufacturing platform. The project is backed by up to $50 million in CHIPS Act funding plus ~$20 million in prior Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund/Sherman EDC support, and is expected to support 550+ direct jobs at full capacity.
