Overview

This site traces to Avalon Photonics, founded in September 2000 as a spinoff from CSEM (the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microelectronics) to develop VCSELs for datacom and sensing. Bookham acquired Avalon Photonics in 2006, and its VCSEL activities were sold to II-VI Laser Enterprise in 2013 (now part of Coherent).
