Overview
Sony's Kagoshima Technology Center in Kirishima, Kagoshima Prefecture traces to Sony Kokubu Semiconductor, established in 1973 (renamed Sony Kokubu in 1991 and the Kagoshima Technology Center in 2006). CCD image-sensor mass production began at the Kokubu plant in 1983, a milestone in Sony's imaging history. The site runs 200mm (8-inch) wafer lines producing analog ICs and legacy semiconductor devices; for its group image-sensor capacity reporting Sony converts Kagoshima's 200mm output to a 300mm-equivalent basis. Per-fab capacity and cost are not separately disclosed. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at Kirishima, Kagoshima, Japan. It focuses on Sensors on 200mm wafers. Production at this facility commenced in 1973.
