Overview

onsemi's Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan wafer fab is a 200mm (8-inch) facility producing memory ICs, including CMOS-based products, across multiple process generations. Built by Fujitsu in the late 1980s as the first integrated wafer fab constructed in Japan following the country's semiconductor-industry deregulation, the plant has 163,000 sq ft of clean room space. onsemi began a foundry supply agreement with Fujitsu in 2014, taking a 10% equity stake in a newly formed subsidiary; it raised its stake to 40% in April 2018, then 60% in October 2018 (renaming the subsidiary ON Semiconductor Aizu Co., Ltd.), and reached full ownership in the first half of 2020. This facility is distinct from onsemi's earlier, smaller 6-inch Aizu wafer fab inherited from Motorola in 1999, which the company closed in 2012. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at 6 Kogyodanchi, Monden-machi, Aizuwakamatsu-shi, Fukushima 965-8506, Japan. It focuses on Memory on 200mm wafers.
