Overview

Amkor Technology Japan is Amkor's Japanese back-end operation, built on the former J-Devices business. J-Devices was established as a joint venture in October 2009 in Kyushu on Toshiba's assembly and test operations (a 2001 Toshiba joint venture predates it), and grew through the transfer of back-end plants from Fujitsu and Renesas in 2012 and 2013; Amkor took full ownership and rebranded it Amkor Technology Japan. Its facilities are concentrated in Oita Prefecture (Oita City and Usuki City) with further plants in other Japanese prefectures, and it is one of the world's leading OSAT operations. As a back-end assembly and test operation it has no wafer-fab process node; monthly wafer capacity is not the relevant metric and plant cost is not disclosed.
