Overview
Amkor's Vila do Conde site near Porto, Portugal is the company's European wafer-level packaging center and one of the largest OSAT operations in Europe. Amkor completed its acquisition of the plant from Nanium S.A. on 22 May 2017. Nanium, a wafer-level fan-out (WLFO) packaging specialist spun out of Qimonda's Portuguese operations, had already shipped close to one billion WLFO packages on a 300mm wafer-level packaging line, so the site predates Amkor and no clean per-line production-start year is recorded here. The plant packages devices for electrification, body electronics and connectivity for customers including Infineon and STMicroelectronics. As a wafer-level packaging operation it has no wafer-fab process node; plant cost was not disclosed. Key facility details include: The facility is situated at Vila do Conde, Porto district, Portugal. It focuses on Advanced Packaging, Assembly & Packaging on 300mm wafers.
