Overview
Intel Fab 29 (Magdeburg), branded 'Silicon Junction', was a planned leading-edge megafab complex in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, announced in March 2022. The two-fab project grew to a reported investment above 30 billion euros, backed by roughly 10 billion euros of German government subsidy, and was intended to produce advanced logic for Intel Foundry. Intel paused the project in 2024 amid heavy losses and, in 2025 under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, cancelled it as part of a wider retrenchment of its expansion plans.
