Overview
Micron's second leading-edge memory fab in Boise, Idaho, announced June 12, 2025 as part of an expanded ~$200B US investment plan. ID2 will be built adjacent to ID1, sharing infrastructure and R&D co-location, and is expected to enter production after ID1 (first output 2H 2027) but before the New York fabs. Covered by the June 2025 amendments to Micron's CHIPS Act direct funding agreements. Construction is slated to begin in 2026 with the fab expected to be operational by the end of 2028, ahead of Micron's New York fabs; $30 billion of the June 2025 plan is earmarked for ID2 together with the expansion of the Manassas, Virginia facility, supported by amended CHIPS Act direct-funding agreements.
