Overview
Samsung Pyeongtaek Line 5 (P5) is a 300mm memory fab under construction at the Pyeongtaek campus. Construction began in 2023, was suspended in 2024 amid the memory downturn, and resumed at full pace in 2025-2026 under Samsung's shell-first strategy, with core infrastructure work pulled forward several months. Targeted for operation in 2028, P5 is planned as a key base for next-generation HBM and 10nm-class sixth-generation (1c) DRAM, with total project cost reported at tens of trillions of won. The site plan covers two plants - Plant 1 (Fab 5) and Plant 2 (Fab 6, referred to as "P6" in some reporting) - with Gyeonggi Province moving in July 2026 to raise the site's floor area ratio from 350% to 490% to allow triple-layer construction; the two plants are reported to begin sequential operations between 2027 and 2030.
